He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Schmidt and Lizzie Schmidt (Beltz); his son Dwight; and his siblings, Anita Fakes, John, Martin, Walter, Vernon, Albert, Everett and Lloyd.
He is survived by: his wife Viola Helen Luehrs; and his daughters, Catherine Fletcher (Roger) of Birmingham and Lisa Meisenheimer (John) of Pretty Prairie, Kansas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
