He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Eugene and Jennie May Houk (Whitlow); his brother E. Richard Houk; and his sisters-in-law, Maxine Houk and Janet Rinehart.

He is survived by: his daughter Brenda Armstrong (Jim) of Moran; his granddaughter Jenni Armstrong of Moran; his stepgrandsons, J. D. Armstrong of Topeka and Andrew Armstrong (Alaina) of Topeka; his sister-in-law Ann Houk of Moran; his wife Nanci of Goodyear, Arizona.; and his brother-in-law Mark Rinehart.
