He was predeceased by: his parents, Victor Gaines and Julia Bernritter Gaines. He is survived by: his wife Nettie Flowers; his sons, Victor Gaines III (Angela) and Graham Gaines; his grandchildren, Lillian, Leighton and Logan; his brothers, Melvin and James Gaines; his aunt Cleta Kreutzer; and his former wives, Nettie Haney and Barbara Pettygrove.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, sent in care of the funeral home.
