He was predeceased by: his parents, William McAlpine and Lillian Lee Emge Nowak; and his brothers, Van "Smokey" Nowak, John "Jay" Nowak and Floyd Nowak.

He is survived by: his wife Donna Williams; his children, Tammy Van Dyne (Dennis), Troy Nowak, Heather Bigham (Brian), Lawrence, Jason Nowak (Courtney) and Jessica Bradbury (Travis); and his sister Anne Dornberger. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
