He was predeceased by: his parents, Owen Johnston and Mabel S. Johnston (Laird); his daughter Diane Abrams; and his siblings, Clyde Johnston, Ira Johnston, Edna Leigh, Lois Amos and Nadine Mullen.
He is survived by: his wife Sara; his children, Martin Johnston (Pam) of Berryton, LeAnn Johnston of McCune and Tara Underwood (Van) of McCune; his son-in-law Joe Abrams of Leawood; and his grandsons, Kyle Johnston, Scott Johnston (Lauren), Brandon Johnston, Jeffrey Johnston, Phillip Underwood (Molly) and Eric Underwood.
Memorials are suggested to the McCune Methodist Church.
