He was predeceased by: his mother June Palen; and his son Nicholas Bryce Palen. He is survived by: his wife Toni Palen of Marienthal; his daughter Jakob Stegman of Holcomb; his father Delbert Sam Palen of Belize; his sisters, Kristi Daily of Elbert and Kerri (Curt Sides); and his grandchildren, Brantlee Stegman, Kora Stegman and Maevyn Stegman of Holcomb. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
