“This is a loss for the whole city and area. Richard kept alive the memory of those who fought to end slavery in this area and to help slaves become free by going north. I will ever cherish the chance I had to take a tour under Richard and learn about Wabaunsee and Mount Mitchell and other local spots of interest. Many who come to Manhattan are not aware of our rich history and how people came here to establish this as a free state, giving up all they had back East. We miss you!”
