He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Lee and Mary Kay Schmidt (House); his wife Sally Jean Bethe; his brother Joe Schmidt; his granddaughter Sarah McBride; and his niece Holly Schmidt.
He is survived by: his children, Tyler Schmidt (Amanda Tucker) of Ellinwood, Nick Schmidt of Hays and Miki Boese (Carol Wirthman) of Great Bend; his siblings, Larry Schmidt (Melea) of Hays, Dan Schmidt (Connie) of Hays, Randy Schmidt of Yorktown, VA, John Schmidt (Dana) of Hays and Karla Ruder (John) of Plainville; his grandchildren, Seth McBride (Angie) of Great Bend, Zachary McBride of Great Bend, Bailey McBride of Great Bend and Braxton Tucker of Great Bend; and his great grandchildren, Beatrice, Harper and Hazel McBride of Great Bend. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
