He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Frank Emil and Virginia Marian Nelson (Mayfield); his children, Gary D. Nelson of Atlanta, Georgia, Debra K. Nelson of Manhattan and Laura N. Wood of Mankato, Minnesota; his siblings, Glen Nelson of Manhattan and Dorine Bergren of Manhattan; his wife Sylvia Louise Nelson (Spain); and his sister Marion Charlotte Ewing. He was also cherished by nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Accord Hospice in Manhattan.
