He was predeceased by: his parents, Agnes Gatschet (Brull) and George Gatschet; his wife Amy Gatschet (Hudson); his granddaughter Isabella Gatschet; and his sister Jeanne Winter.

He is survived by: his children, Teri Belin (Kelvin) of Manhattan, KS, Amy Jo Carlson (Randy) of Lawrence, KS, Mary Lynn Gatschet (Enrique Leon) of Coronado, CA, Renee Allerheilegen (Jarod) of Medina, MN, Christy Russell (Matthew) of Otego, NY, Diana Gatschet (Jeremy Short) of Brooklyn, NY, Fred Gatschet of Salina, KS, Tom Gatschet (Katherine) of Topeka, KS, Charlie Gatschet (Kathy) of Olathe, KS and Joe Gatschet of Pascagoula, MS.; and his brothers, Tom, Paul and George Gatschet of Hays, KS..
