He was predeceased by: his parents, Lon Fairbanks and Irene Fairbanks (Lyon). He is survived by: his wife Carolee; his children, Debra Wheeler of Kansas City and Mark Fairbanks (Angela) of Topeka; his stepchildren, George Bannon and Michele Ridder (Rick); his grandsons, Wesley Bannon, Cory Ridder, Michael Ridder, Tyler Wheeler and Blaine Ridder; and his sister Rita Littleton. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
