He was predeceased by: his parents, John George Apel, Jr. and Eleanor Dryden Encell Apel; his former wife Mary Dean Holle Apel (Shirley Tucker Apel); his brother Paul; and his sister-in-law Deloris Hoskins Apel.
He is survived by: his children, John William and Dean Marsh; his former wife Shirley Tucker; his children, Regina Apel of Soldier, KS, Ann-Christin Apel of Lindsborg, KS and Ellen Apel of Minneapolis, MN; and his grandchildren, Yeremiah Apel, Yohannes (Cecilia Apel), Maria Apel, Lukas Apel of Hays, KS, Frederik Apel of Soldier, KS and Phillip Apel of Soldier, KS.
Instead of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions be directed to the Kansas 4-H Foundation, Dale Apel Leader-in-training campership fund, 1680 Charles Pl, Ste 100, Manhattan, KS 66502.
