It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Simon Hawley Root of Lyons, Kansas, born in Ellsworth, Kansas, who passed away on March 29, 2024, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Root and Nell Root (Keck); his wife Barbara Murray; his siblings, Ada Beck, Edwin Root and Wesley Root; and his grandson Travis Root.
He is survived by: his children, Kim Root (Barbara) of Bandon, OR, Kyle Root (Karen) of Lyons, KS, Kris Laymon (Sam) of Sterling, KS and Kyra Newkirk of Overland Park, KS; and his siblings-in-law, Bonnie and Clinton Russell of Belpre, KS. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Rice Community Healthcare Foundation (for the Swing Bed Unit) in memory of Simon Root, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
