He was predeceased by: his parents, Milton Schmidt and Ethel Schmidt (Bachmeier); his sister Lavon; and his brother-in-law Dale Holte. He is survived by: his wife Nancy; his children, Laurie Birt (Larry) and Mike Schmidt (Tabitha); his grandchildren, Caroline, Charlie Birt, Peyton and Samantha Schmidt; and his brother Melvin Schmidt (Margaret). He is also survived by two nieces and three nephews.
