He was predeceased by: his parents, Lonnie Smith and Beryl Smith (Snyder); his wife Shirley Horn; his grandson Jeff Chestnut; his great grandchildren, Levonte Reed and Naudya Gottschalk; his siblings, Johnita and Johnny; his siblings-in-law, Sharon, Ollie, Pat, Wanda and Alan Chestnut; his son-in-law Gary Malesker; and his grandson-in-law Jimmie Schultz.
He is survived by: his children, Carla Griffin (Flint), Deborah Smith, Lorri Burns (Blake), Brenda Chestnut (Dennis) and Steven Smith (Susan); and his siblings, Lucille Smith (Lowell), Kaye Ferrer (Vincent), LeRoy, Bob (Karen), Rex (Ora) and Stan. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
