He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman L. and Emma Mabel Bengtson; and his sister Marilyn Lou Bengtson. He is survived by: his children, Debra Jelinek (Marvin Jelinek) and Jerry Bengtson; his grandchildren, Jason Jelinek (Laura), Justin Jelinek (Elizabeth), Lindsay Billinger (Shawn Billinger), Brooklyn Woolard (Jacob Woolard) and Mica Bengtson; and his sister Betty Nelson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
