He was predeceased by: his parents, Anton Berend and Eleanor Wachsman Berend; his siblings, Manuel Berend, Emery Berend, Jerome Berend, Mildred Pennartz and Alma Pennartz; and his son Gordon Berend.
He is survived by: his children, Janet (Arturo Pacheco), Deanna (Charlie Fraley), Linda (Joe Becker), Mike Berend of Leoti, Rita (Simon Bartel), Carol (Daren Ruth) and Gina (Jimmy Perkins); and his siblings, James Berend of Windthorst, Margaret Schroeder of Windthorst, Anton Berend of Oklahoma, Martin Berend of Oklahoma City, Eleanor Pechacek of Las Vegas and George Wray of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
