He was predeceased by: his parents, Martinus Appl and Violet Appl (Elder); his siblings, Katheryn Taylor and Keith Appl; and his son-in-law Charlie Carpenter.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothea J. Appl (Van Winkle); his daughters, Julie Carpenter of Leoti, Trish (Bryan Brunswig) and Kathy (Darin Graff); and his grandchildren, Cole (Bridgette Carpenter), Shala (Kevan Steele), Tyler (Cheyann McClayland), Lacey (Alex Detwiler), Cara (Josh Gunderson), Ty (Courtney Brunswig) and Tia (Logan Mattheyer). He is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren.
