He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilfred E. Whitney and Laina J. Whitney (Maliniemi); and his siblings, Earleen Leslie (Andy Leslie) and Bill Whitney. He is survived by: his wife Patsy Whitney; his children, Susan Weddle (Henry Buda), Holly Whitney (Paul Stewart), Nancy Patterson (Wes), James Whitney, Robert Whitney (Stacy) and Kymber Umana (Boadil); and his stepson Robert Ross (Ginger). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
