He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Marion and Eleanor Hughes (Hersh); his wife Penelope "Penny" J. Hughes (Lohman); and his brother-in-law Bob Meyer. He is survived by: his sisters, Peggy Meyer of Effingham, Kan and Patricia Visocsky (Fred) of Woolstock, Iowa; his children, James Humbard (Mi Hsiang) of Lansing, Kan, Catherine Hurst (Scott) of Basehor and Christopher Marsh (Monica) of Booneville; his grandchildren, Cody Groover, Jordan Green, Lauren O'Donnell (Ryan), Courtney Sandbothe, Landen Smith, Joey Humbard, Laney Smith, Ellis Humbard and Lindy Hurst; and his nieces and nephews, David, LeeAnn, Brian, Bobbie, Matthew, Valerie and Candace. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, March 15th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the R. L. Leintz Funeral Home (4701 10th Ave, Leavenworth, KS 66048).
