He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Powell and Phyllis Powell. He is survived by: his wife Debra L Powell; his stepsons, Timothy Barnett (Yvette), Robert Barnett and Michael Barnett (Stephanie); his sister Teresa Swanson; his stepsiblings, Robert (Skip), Henady (Terri), Gregory Henady and Lori Henady-Grennell (Gary); and his uncle Greg. He is also survived by seven step-grandsons and one step-great-granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the University of Kansas Cancer Center, or the children's programs at First Baptist Church.
