She was predeceased by: her parents, Christoph Hassel and Erika Hassel; her siblings, Sigrid Steinmetz and Christoph Hassel; and her sister-in-law Linda Helton.
She is survived by: her husband Earl Edward Jacobs; her children, Angela Jacobs Strum (Stephen) and Mark Jacobs (Gwendolyn); her grandchildren, Jake Strum, Ethan Jacobs, Rosie Strum, Aidan Jacobs and Saida Jacobs; her siblings, Rita Vogler, Elke Kilian of Neunkirchen, Germany and Bernd Hassel (Martina Conrad) of Saarbrueken, Germany; and her sister-in-law Connie Kesinger (Kevin) of Lawrence. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made in Sonja's name to Corpus Christi Catholic Church or Ascend Hospice, both of Lawrence, Kansas.
