He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Lawrence and Margaret Francis Stephens (Renfrow); his siblings, Phillip Stephens, Wanda Waugh, Patricia Davis and Pam Taliaferro; and his grandson Zach Stephens.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Kay Stephens; his children, Douglas L. Stephens (LaDonna), Diana L. Lisher (Bob), Deb L. Holzmeister (Scott) and Denise L. Kahler; his brother William "Bill" Stephens; and his grandchildren, Justin Stephens (Amber), Caleb Stephens, Jayme Savage (Blake), Brett Lisher (Darci), Michael Lisher (Melissa), Katherine Holzmeister, Amy Stockslager (Max), Joe Holzmeister (Carlie), Regan Stuart (Taylor) and Maren Blessent (Matt). He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the "Bob's Award" care of the Lawrence Schools Foundation or to Family Promise and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary 120 W. 13th St. Lawrence, KS 66044.
