It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Rex D. Johnson (Lawrence, Kansas), who passed away on June 25, 2021, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Rex Lee and Lillian Marie Petefish Johnson; his grandmother Duver; his parent-in-law Shirley Marie Baker; his children, Allen Johnson (Robin), Dale Johnson (Kathy) and Susan Collins (Jason); his grandchildren, Aaron, Paul, Patrick, Ross, Colton, Jake Johnson, Kyle Bulmer, Robi Murray and Kelly Johnson Mondi; and his sons, Duane Lee Johnson and David Bruce Johnson. He was also cherished by 21 great grandchildren; and many lifelong friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Clinton Presbyterian Church, or VNA, in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.

“I am the former Helen Livingston Pendleton. I remember Sheriff Rex Johnson very well back in the 1950s and '60s. My mom Edith worked in the Douglas County Courthouse for Judge Rankin. My dad, Judge Bill Rankin, was often at the courthouse on business. My brother Steve and I were allowed to go in the jail house. Rex was always kind to us and made us feel welcome, even in that scary place. I have several black-and-white photos of sheriffs and deputies, including this one. My deepest condolences.”
