He was predeceased by: his parents, Phillip Commons and Mildred Commons; his brother Marvin Commons; his siblings-in-law, Gene Blaylock and Vivian Commons; and his great great grandchild Adrianna.
He is survived by: his wife Paula; his siblings, Ed Commons of Lawrence, Phyllis Blaylock of Lawrence and Ron Commons (DeeDee) of Baldwin City, KS.; and his grandchildren, Kirsten Muncy (Chad), Pike, Sarah Hyde (Eric), Samantha DiBrito (Ryan), Dustin Commons, Alyson Commons, Elizabeth Lewis and Phillip Commons. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made in Merle's name to the Elara Caring Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044. Warren-McElwain provides a full range of services including burial, cremation in our own crematory, entombment, or body donation.
