He was predeceased by: his parents, John Steger and Loretta Steger. He is survived by: his wife Laurie Steger; his siblings, John Steger (Christi), Tom Steger (Sue) and Suzy Winter (Allen); his children, Tim Steger (Amber) and Sara Henderson (Joe); and his grandchildren, Leah, Max, Zurich and Winston.

Memorial contributions may be made in James' name to Rock Chalk Roundball Classic benefiting families battling pediatric cancer and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044. Warren-McElwain provides a full range of services including burial, cremation in our own crematory, entombment, or body donation.
