He was predeceased by: his parents, James Dawson, Sr. and Jessie Mae (Gifford); his son Tyrone R. Dawson; and his siblings, Sammie L. Dawson, Lula Mae Dawson and Ava Morris.
He is survived by: his sons, Jerome R. Dawson of Hutchinson and Theron J. Dawson of Lawrence; his grandchildren, Shaqune Mecham, Jeremy Dawson, Jarrod Dawson, Shayla Dawson, Amiah Dawson, Keyara Dawson, Sophia Dawson and Aubrea Dilbeck; and his great grandchildren, Jayden Mecham, Aurora Mecham and Aaralyn Doby. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made in James' name to Senior Resource Center for Douglas County and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
