It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Donna Kay Weigel of Lawrence, Kansas, born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, who passed away on January 18, 2024, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Loren Burley and Jeraldine Burley (Batie); her spouse Francis Weigel; her daughter Cynthia Jackson of Lawrence, KS; and her siblings, Jane Harding of Iowa Falls, IA and Robert Burley of Peoria, AZ..

She is survived by: her children, Jolene Gilliam, John Weigel of Lawrence, KS and Justin Weigel of Olathe, KS; and her brothers, Timothy Burley of Ankeny, IA and Daniel Burley of Boone, IA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made in Donna's name to Saint John the Evangelist Church and Lawrence Humane Society may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044. Warren-McElwain provides a full range of services including burial, cremation in our own crematory, entombment, or body donation.

“I was sorry to hear about Donna's passing. She was so much a part of my growing up years. We were not only cousins and neighbors, but we were together in 4-H & Rainbow Girls, school and church, We went from the one room school house clear thru high school. We had so many fun times but the one that comes to mind is she dared me to put my foot into the snow bank at the side of the road and when I did, my boot got stuck and I had to walk on up to her house with one stocking foot. We laughed”
