He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Mertens and Lucille Miller Mertens; and his siblings, Edwin, John, Dorothy Swart and Rosella Henning.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Jacobs; his children, Darrel, Timothy, Stephen, Michael, Geneva Ricke and Dolores Henning; and his siblings, Leroy, Leo, Donald, Ronald, Marvin, Pauline, Alice Jacobs, Helen Meyers and Karen Lubbers. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made with the St. Peter Catholic Church, Wheatlands Healthcare Center, or Rivercross Hospice, all in care of the funeral home.
