He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo W. Mertens and Lucille Miller Mertens; and his siblings, Edwin, Lawrence, John, Dorothy Swart, Rosella Henning and Alice Jacobs.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ewy; his sons, Tom and Jerry (Shari); his grandchildren, Drue, Cora and Haley Mertens; his great grandchild Hadley Mertens; and his siblings, Leo F., Leroy, Gene, Marvin "Butch" Mertens, Pauline Jacobs, Helen Meyers and Karen Lubbers.
Memorials may be made with the Kingman Community Hospital in care of Livingston Funeral Home.
