She was predeceased by: her grandparents, Roosevelt and Mable Strickland; her mother Mary Strickland Collins; her sister Cynthia Lewis; and her great grandchild Zaire Harris.
She is survived by: her children, Willie James Burns Jr., Melinda Anastasia Burns and Sarah Louise Burns; her grandchildren, Tania Bolton, DeMarcus Burns, Sariah Dawson, Roosevelt Burns and Maliyah Burns; her great grandchildren, Terrance Harris, Melanie Harris and Micah Burns; her siblings, Leon K. Lewis (Carol) of Dover, Brenda P. Cherry (Lloyd Brown) of Fredericksburg, Virgina, Mark P. Cherry (Thalia) of Lee's Summit and Lorrell Triplett (Luvetta) of Olathe, Kansas.; and her former husband Willie Burns Sr. (Willie Dirks). She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Thatcher's Funeral Chapel (1520 N 5th St, Kansas City, KS 66101). A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
