He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene B. Smith and Jessie Smith (Heldebrant); his stepbrothers, William Smith (Bill), Robert Smith (Bob), Richard Spencer (Ben) and Jesse Spencer (Roe); and his brother Leonard Smith.

He is survived by: his brother Larry Lee Smith; and his cousins, Kay Southards and Jay Johnson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
