She was predeceased by: her parents, John W. Thomas and Frances Thomas (Wright); her son Verne Oswald, Jr.; her former husband Howard Heere, Jr.; her husband Melvin Smith; her grandson Landon Dean Oswald; and her sister Joyce Scharvan.
She is survived by: her children, Michael Oswald (Leah) and Cynthia Oswald Hesse (Bradley, Sr.); her grandchildren, Joshua Oswald (Cindee), Jaime Westervelt (Corey), Jordan Oswald (Jessica), Bradley Hesse, Jr. (Megan), Brandon Hesse (Jenna), Rhiannon McMurray (Dennis), Taylor Oswald (Jessica) and Dillon Oswald; and her sister Janet Simpson-Hook. She is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
