She was predeceased by: her parents, Stephen Meiwes and Margaret Meiwes (Rausch); her husband Joseph Berntsen, Sr.; her son-in-law Kent LasKares; her grandson Michael Berntsen; and her great grandchildren, Skye and Madeleine Berntsen.
She is survived by: her children, Mary (John), Joey (Theresa), Linda (Roy), Rick (Rita), Nita, Carleen, Mark (Helen), Lacinda (Sean) and Marlana (Dan); and her sister Margie Eddie. She is also survived by numerous other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Bernita are suggested to Humanity House and may be left with the funeral home or mailed to 1883 U.S. Highway 54, Iola, Kansas, 66749.
