He was predeceased by: his parents, Virtes Tweedie and Madeline Wadman Tweedie; his sister Mary Diane Lovett; and his former wife Sharon Bryant Tweedie. He is survived by: his children, Alan Tweedie (Cynthia), Robert Mackenzie of Alabama, Lori Hofstrom (Keith) and Connie Greer (Steve) of Kansas; his grandchildren, Alan Tweedie II, Jessie Tweedie, Alyson Holmes (Jonathan), Blake Tweedie, Landon Tweedie, Aden Tweedie of Somerville, Alabama, Hayleigh Stanford (Chad), Hilary Chapman, Heather Boss (Matt), Alysha Boggs (Brad) and Stevie Greer (Katie) of Independence; and his former wife Mary Sanders Passauer. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers a memorial contribution be made in David's name to IHS Athletics for the golf team.
