He was predeceased by: his parents, Helen Kathrens and Walter Kathrens; his son John Kathrens II; his wife Janice Kathrens (Fraser); and his siblings, Jean Baker, Evelyn Schultz, Frances Schuyler, Norma Walden, Audrey Howard, Barbara Clark, Jay Kathrens, Philip Kathrens and Frank Kathrens.
He is survived by: his children, Dan Kathrens of Great Bend, KS, Cindy Kathrens (Dave Jeanneret) of Onaga, KS, Pat Korte (Randy) of Holton, KS and Sharon Hochard (John) of Holton, KS; and his siblings, Maxine Cook of Holton, KS, Kay McKeever of Hines, OR and Wallace Kathrens of Holton, KS.. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
