It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Alvin Backhus (Hiawatha, Kansas), born in Tampa, Kansas, who passed away on August 11, 2018, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. He is survived by: his spouse Grace "Ivalou" Bender; his children, Edna Lehew and Edward Backhus (Tina) of Sarasota, FL; his siblings, Ruth Taylor (Bill) of Shawnee, KS, Alice Yoachum (Gerald), Lydia Evans (Keith) and Paul Backhus (Edna) of Tampa; his grandchildren, Dan Backhus, Doug Backhus, Dawn Perdomo, Billy Baker and Cheryl Tarwater; his son-in-law Robert "Bob" Lehew; and also Hiawatha. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
