He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Geist and Virginia Geist (Klaus); and his nephew Christopher Geist. He is survived by: his wife Susan Weber of Hays; his children, Michael Schmidtberger (Marcey) of Walker, Sarah Thomason (Jared) of Olathe and Amber Zeman of Wichita; his siblings, Joe Geist, Jr. of Hays and Nancy Seib (Mike) of Hays; and his grandchildren, Taylor Schmidtberger, Cole Schmidtberger, Kiley Beagley (Braden), Gavin Thomason, Ashlyn Thomason, Layton Zeman and Layla Zeman.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or to St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church.
