He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Daniel Howie and Pearl Irma Howie (Hoffman); his wife Florence May Hird; his grandson Dusty Joe McCartney; and his siblings, Shirley Ann Howie and Adrian Daniel Howie.
He is survived by: his children, Fred Howie Jr. (Kay) of Little River, DeAnna Stevens (Dean) of Harper, Valerie Podschun (Rick) of Anthony, Shirley Stark (Mike) of Harper, Jon Howie (Kelli) of Bee Cave and Nancy Hacker (Danny) of Harper; his grandchildren, Nicole McQueen (Mike), Adrian Howie (Kristen), Christopher Stevens (Kristi), Erica McGreevy (Shane), Brandon Stevens (Danielle Caylor), Adam Podschun (Virginia), Aaron Podschun (Amy), Ashley Podschun, Danny Ray McCartney (Sarah), Scotty McCartney, Kenny McCartney, Vanessa Stark, Arabella Stark, Jesse Kerschen, Jordan Brouwer (Knut), Amber Kerschen, Jamie Madl (Andrew), Aspen Howie, Skyler Howie, Harley Hacker, Tamairla Spencer (Jason), Kayla Popwell, Eric McFarland, Allen Hacker and Michael Hacker; and his sister-in-law Deloris Hird. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Memorials in memory of Fred may be made to the Anthony Community Care Center or to the Fred Howie Memorial, which will be used to purchase a memorial bench for the Harper softball field, and may be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Homes, 613 West 14th Street ~ Harper, Kansas 67058.
