He was predeceased by: his parents, Isaac William and Ethel Lillian Root (Booze); his siblings, Clyde Sharon, Marion, David, Olive Haldman, Rosalie Cross, Eva Mae Skinner and Emma Hartness; and his stepson David Brewer.
He is survived by: his former wife Betty Polsfut; his wife Donna Ruggles; his children, Alan Root (Cindy) of Chase, Brian Root (Terri) of Wichita, Kansas and Leslie Mechtley (Gary) of Emporia, Kansas; and his stepchildren, Dan Brewer of Bainbridge Island and Candace Juarez (Tim) of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
