With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Lillian Nowak of Gorham, Kansas, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on January 20, 2025 at the age of 94. She was predeceased by: her parents, Anton P. Sander and Rosa Sander (Nemecheck); her husband Vernon; her children, Barbara Nowak and David; her children-in-law, Pam Nowak and Robert Hammersmith; her great grandchildren, Abigail Phillips and Torah Hull; and her siblings, Daniel Sander, Louis Sander, Mary Schuster Dinges, Sophia Zerr, Evelyn Sander and Vera Hoffman.
She is survived by: her children, Thomas Nowak (Mary) of Salina, KS, Kayleen Schmitt (Leonard) of Salina, KS, Vernetta Hammersmith, Scott Stroda of White City, KS, John Nowak of Salina, KS and Marilyn Labinski of Olathe, KS; her brother Lawrence Sander of Salina, KS; and her grandchildren, Chrissy Nowak, Kelle Nowak, Melissa Phillips (Danny), Stephanie Ochs (Jeff), Jessica Bender (David), Angela Dixon (Colby), Carolyn Schmitt, Robert Hammersmith II (Gina), Dianna Dibben (Brandon), Michael Hammersmith (Amanda), Kendra Nowak, John Nowak Jr. and Jennifer Nowak. She is also survived by her eighteen great grandchildren; her one great great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 26th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday, January 27th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A rosary was held on Sunday, January 26th 2025 at 6:30 PM at the Cline's-Keithley Mortuary of Hays (1919 E 22nd St, Hays, KS 67601). A prayer was held on Sunday, January 26th 2025 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location. A vigil service was held on Sunday, January 26th 2025 at 8:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Monday, January 27th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church (135 3rd St, Gorham, KS 67640).
