He was predeceased by: his father Gerald Dean; and his brother Robert Hammersmith. He is survived by: his mother Mildred Marie Hammersmith (Crockett) of Victoria, Kansas; his wife Lou Ann; his children, Jared Hammersmith (J. J.) of Gorham, Kansas and Nicole Hartman (Mitch) of Hays, Kansas; his sisters, Peggy Wohler of Victoria and Donna Weigel of Gorham, Kansas; and his grandchildren, Seth, Ava, Sage Schwien, Katelyn Hartman, Jaden and Jalynn Hammersmith.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 6th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. A rosary was held on Wednesday, November 6th 2024 at 7:00 PM at the Basilica of St. Fidelis (900 Cathedral Ave, Victoria, KS 67671). A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, November 7th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to the Dreiling-Schmidt Cancer Center of Hays, Kansas or St. Ann's Catholic Church and can be sent in care of the mortuary.
