He was predeceased by: his siblings, Charlotte Smethers, Leta Faye Bartholomew, Shirley Mae Smethers and Charles G. Smethers. He is survived by: his wife JoAnne; and his children, Michael (Robin Smethers) of Gardner, KS, Gary (Theresa Smethers) of Gardner, KS, Anita (Paul Watters) of Gardner, KS and Vicky (Dave Downey) of Gardner, KS. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #19.
