He was predeceased by: his parents, Leland Waechter and Della Waechter (Elliott); his siblings, Walter Waechter, Carl Waechter, Laura Heeke and Freda McVey; and his granddaughter Sara Schiffelbein.

He is survived by: his wife Rita; his daughters, Debbie Schiffelbein (Eric) of Garden City, KS, Julie Bunn of Atlanta, GA and Diane Pomeroy of Garden City, KS; and his grandchildren, Rhiannon Englert (Kai), Tyler Schiffelbein (Jeannette), Brad Schiffelbein (Greta), Ross Schiffelbein (Kaylee), Kalen Brandenburg (Robbie), Craig Daugherty (Kristi), Lauren Pridgen (Shawn), Kara Schwindt, Kayleigh McCarrell, Kelsi Stauffer (Riley) and Ian Pomeroy. He is also survived by 20 Great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lakin, Kansas in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
