It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Betty Jo Messer of Fulton, Kansas, born in Linn, Kansas, who passed away on May 26, 2021, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Chester W. Shafer and Mary Elizabeth Shafer (Hines); her husband Merlin Boyd Messer; and her siblings, Jane Cummins, Alice Harkness, Ina Kite, Allen Shafer, Keith Shafer, Clarence Shafer and Chester Shafer.

She is survived by: her children, Millie Karleskint (Larry) of Fort Scott, Margie Brown (Rod) of Fulton, Martin Messer (Kathy) of Franklin, KS, Matt Messer (Susan) of Fort Scott and Scott Messer (Brenda) of Peculiar, MO; her sister Vera McCormick (Rex) of Louisburg; and her sisters-in-law, Marie Sears and Shirley Shafer. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fulton United Methodist Church, or the Ellis Foundation Scholarship Fund and may be left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall Street, P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, Kansas, 66701.
