He was predeceased by: his parents, Glen Richard Cowen and Freda Cowen (Bentley); and his brother Wayne Cowen. He is survived by: his children, Christel Reynaga (Jose) of Fresno, Carol Margarian (Mike) of Clovis, Kimberly Telegan (Justin) of Ozark, Cynthia Whitter (Jack) of Fort Scott and Scott Cowen (Michelle) of Gardner, Kansas; and his brothers, Larry Cowen (Sondra) of Fort Scott and Brad Cowen (Joyce) of Fort Scott. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
