He was predeceased by: his parents, John Frank and Ethel Emma Chastain (Sisson); and his siblings, Mary Lou Carroll, Arlie Eugene Chastain and Gladys Morris.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Purdum; his children, Irl F. Chastain of Eureka and Debbie Vinson of Eureka; and his siblings, Clyde Chastain of Kansas City, Kansas, Everett Chastain of Howard and Virginia Jones of Eureka. He is also survived by four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren.
