It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Frank L. Nelson of Emporia, Kansas, who passed away on February 3, 2022, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family in the guestbook on this memorial page of Frank L. Nelson to show support.

He was predeceased by: his parents, John William Nelson and Edna Anna Nelson (Neve); his spouse Caryl I. Kohls; and his siblings, Joyce Goldstein, Carl A. Nelson and John W. Nelson, Jr..

He is survived by: his children, Robert, April, Jim (Christi), Serena Bartlett (Charles), Amy Pierce (Bill), Bonnie Garcia (Misael) and Mary Riley (Jerry). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Camp Alexander, in care of Charter Funerals at 501 W. 6th Ave., Emporia.

“I still remember, 45 years later, the lesson on dominant and recessive genes that Mr. Nelson taught us in freshman biology. Also, in the summer of 1980, I went on a trip to Colorado organized by the Emporia High science teachers. I remember some of the kids were kind of bullying one of our peers, and Mr. Nelson did not stand for that. He was a staunch advocate for kids--for fairness, for kindness, for inclusion. And a lively teacher whose science instruction is still with me.”
