He was predeceased by: his parents, William "Shock" Leslie Downing and Eula Fern Downing (Hibbs); his daughter Julie Peterson; his great grandchild Danielle Stevens; and his siblings, Berle, Veldon, Paul, Harold, Bob, Gail, Norman, Willa, Larry and Rose.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Kaye Reese; his children, Greg Downing (Shelly), Brenda Stoppel (Kevin), Karen Wade and Steve Downing (Teri); and his grandchildren, Joy Peterson Lightfoot (Charles), Jennie Peterson Ramey (Andrew), Ariel Peterson and Kristi Downing Stevens.
In lieu of flowers the family has designated memorials be to Copeland Christian Church or Copeland American Legion in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel - PO Box 421 - Montezuma, Kansas 67867.
