It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joe L. Slechta (Conway Springs, Kansas), born in Liberal, Kansas, who passed away on September 1, 2024, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Frank Slechta and Rose Marie Slechta (Slehofer); and his sisters, Mary Rose Slechta M. D. and Ameila Field. He is survived by: his wife Mary Slechta; his children, Joe D. Slechta (Stacy) of North Newton, Kansas and Cathleen Balman of Conway Springs, Kansas; his grandchildren, Isaac Balman, Owen Joe Balman, Claire Slechta and Joe Elliott Slechta; his siblings-in-law, John and Cathleen Ohnemiller; and his nephews, John W. and Michael Ohnemiller. He is also survived by other relatives and countless friends.

A memorial has been established to the Autism Society of America.
